What would you say if someone asked you to buy nothing new for a whole month? “Lunatic”, I said.
How do you reckon does it feel to consume more consciously for 4 weeks? Thinking of what you need and why you need it? Avoiding new products as much as possible? At that point I started to understand what that someone wanted from me.
By trying to reduce my consumption of new products to essentials such as food, drink, medications, hygiene products, I might start realising how much stuff I buy that I don’t really need. Doing that over a whole month will push me right to my boundaries and most probably beyond.
This is how I was introduced to Buy Nothing New Month which is happening in October. These kind of campaigns get me, so I am hooked. But I won’t do it in october, because we are going on holidays soon. I don’t want to tell Little M that yes we are on adventurous camping holidays but he can’t have that new camping kids chair because mummy decided to take part in buy nothing new month.
So I’ll join you later, but you guys go ahead.
Below are some details and this is the website for even more www.buynothingnew.com.au.
“Buy Nothing New is not about going without, nor is it Buy Nothing New Never.
It’s about taking October to reassess what we really need, think about where the stuff we buy comes from (finite resources), where it goes (landfill), and what our alternatives are.
It is about conscientious consumption and by not spending on stuff we don’t need, increasing our savings for the things we do need. ”
Have fun!
